SOFT DINNER ROLLS

Do you love the smell of homemade bread or rolls baking in the oven?

Do you love the taste of homemade dinner rolls accompanied with a completely southern dinner or brunch? They are also perfect for sliders or little sandwiches, such as ham or turkey.

1 cup whole milk
4 T unsalted butter, cut into 16 little cubes
2 T granulated sugar
1 T active dry yeast
1 large egg, whisked
1 t sea salt
3 cups all-purpose flour

Melted butter, for brushing on rolls

In a 2-cup heatproof measuring cup, add the milk, butter,
and sugar.
Microwave until mixture is warm to the touch (110 degrees F) and butter is melted.
Pour mixture into the bowl of a stand mixing bowl.
Sprinkle in the yeast.
Let proof for 10 minutes, until foamy.
Add the egg, salt, 1 cup of the four and mix thoroughly, with a whisk.

Add the 2nd cup of flour and attach to the mixer with a dough hook and mix.
Finally, add the 3rd cup of flour and mix for 5 minutes.
Transfer dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 1 minute.
Transfer to an oiled bowl, cover with a damp tea towel or plastic wrap.
Let the dough rise in a warm location for 2 hours, until doubled in size, no hotter than 80 degrees.

Gently punch down dough and divide into 16 equal-sized pieces.
Using a bench scrape makes this easier.
Shape each piece into a ball and place, smooth side up, into a greased 9x13-inch baking pan or small sheet pan with sides.
You can also use two 9-inch square or round baking pans.
Cover with plastic wrap that has been sprayed or brushed on the inside with oil.
Let rise in a warm spot for 60 minutes.

Meanwhile, preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown.

Remove from oven and brush with melted butter and sprinkle with some sea salt, if desired.
