IZETTA'S SOUTHERN-STYLE BAKED BEANS

Baked beans with bacon is a southern favorite side dish. They are delicious with ribs, barbecue chicken, pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs, or hamburgers. 



6 slices bacon, cut in half
1 medium yellow onion, finely diced
1 clove garlic, minced or ½ t garlic powder
2 (28-oz) baked beans (I use Bush's Homestyle or Original)
¼ cup ketchup
2 T molasses (I use Grandma's)
¼ cup dark brown sugar
¼ cup apple cider vinegar
2 t English dry mustard
½ t hickory flavoring

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Fry bacon in a large cast-iron skillet until lightly brown.
Remove bacon to a plate.
Drain off all but about 1 tablespoon of the bacon drippings.

Add onion to skillet with bacon drippings and sauté for 10 minutes.
Add garlic and sauté one more minute.

Add the beans and rest of the ingredients.
Stir to combine.
Top with the bacon slices.

Place in oven and bake for 30 minutes.

Serves 8 to 10
