HAMBURGER BUNS

I made hamburger buns years ago and forgot about my recipe. So I made them and they turned out great! You can also make them into hot dog rolls.

1 cup warm water (about 110 degrees F)
3 T granulated sugar
1 T instant dry yeast
¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
1 large egg
1 t sea salt
½ cups all-purpose flour

1 T milk, for brushing on top

1 T melted unsalted butter
1 T sesame seeds
1 T poppy seeds
1 T dried minced onions

In the bowl of a standing mixer, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast.
Let proof for 5 to 10 minutes, until foamy.

Add the butter, egg, and salt.
Mix to combine, then add the flour, one cup at a time.

Turn out onto a floured surface and knead for 5 to 7 minutes.

Shape the dough into a ball and place in a lightly oiled bowl.

Cover with plastic wrap and place in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.

Using a dough scraper divide the dough into 8 equal portions.
Smooth balls and flatten to about 4 inches.
Place on a lightly oiled baking sheet.
Cover with plastic wrap that has been lightly sprayed with oil and top with another
baking sheet.
Let rise for 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

After 30 minutes, remove top baking sheet and plastic wrap.
Gently brush buns with butter and sprinkle with sesame seeds, poppy seeds, and dried minced onions, if desired.

Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
Transfer to a wire rack to cool before slicing.

Makes 8 hamburger buns
